Cricket world cup is coming closer day by day now and there been a lot of noise for its time frame, format, number of matches and amazing prize money.  Still every one is waiting for this amazing event and being busy with planning of 41 days for watching their favorite team in action. Opening ceremony of ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 will be held on 17th February 2011 at Dhaka, Bangladesh, opening match of world cup will also be held in same ground on 19th February 2011.

During the bid of ICC on hosting the 2011 cricket world cup there have been a lot of noises too.  Finally the hosting was awarded to Asian sub-continent countries, later Pakistan was stripped of its rights as co-host along with India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.   Sources say that due to this decision Pakistan Cricket Board loses were estimated to USD 10.5 millions, a legal notice was also served against this decision.

On 2nd April 2010 mascot “Stumpy” was unveiled at Colombo, Sri Lanka.  It is a ten-year-old elephant that is young in age, enthusiastic and is determined (?). 

This time round total numbers of teams participating are 14 over 12 in 2007.   Format been finalized as round robin in 2 different ground with 7 teams each.  This was done to make sure all of the participant countries to play at least 6 matched (1 each with all group teams) before entering knockout stage of the tournament.


Total numbers of cricket stadiums are 13 who will host world cup 2011 matches.  These are spread over 3 different countries and 13 different cities.  Here is the list of Stadiums:

8.    Sher-E-Bangla Cricket Stadium,Dhaka, Bangladesh
9.    Wandhede Stadium, Mumbai,India
10.  Suriyawewa Stadium,Hamantota,Sri Lanka
11.  Punjab Cricket Association Stadium,Mohali,India
12.  Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium,Nagpur,India
13.  M.Chinnaswamy Stadium,Bangalore,India

As never before media coverage is planned, Cricket World Cup 2011 would be broadcast in 220 countries worldwide and telecast rights have been allotted to ESPN STAR Sports and Star Cricket for around USD 2 Billion (Now that’s a handsome amount).

As per schedule of ICC Cricket World Cup 2011, there been total 49 Cricket Matches to be played including Final of Tournament.

Warm-Up Matches:

ICC has planed 14 Warm-Up Matches for this world cup to give everyone a bit of practice before the start of finals.
