Eden Garden,Venue of ICC Cricket World Cup 2011.
Eden Garden is established way back in 1864 and has been renovated for ICC Cricket World Cup 2011, after which total capacity will be 86961 spectators.   For peoples who love numbers in the game of cricket, Eden Garden is the second biggest stadium behind Melbourne Cricket Ground, Australia and also second to Salt Lake Stadium in term of size.

1st Cricket Test Match hosted by Eden Garden was way back in 5th January 1934 between India and England.   First ODI was hosted on 18th February 1987 between India and Sri Lanka.  It has also hosted Cricket World Cup Final 1987, won by Australian Cricket Team defeating England by 7 Runs.

Though this is a one of the noted cricket grounds in world there have been many incidents, which can be considered as the black spot on Eden Garden's History.  Riot broke down in 1966/67 during West Indies tours and again in 1969/70 during Australian Cricket team's tour. Semi Final of Cricket World Cup 1996 was called off due to crowd set fire to the stands due to collapse in Indian run chase.

Eden Garden has also seen some of the most memorable moments in the history of Test Match Cricket.   Who can forget the hat-trick of Harbhajan Singh against Australian Cricket Team in 2000/01 at this very ground to become the first Indian ever to take hat-trick in Test Cricket.   One can also memorize the 281 run inning by VVS Laxman against Australia in the season of 2000/01, which was made after India took follow-on by Australian team.  This match later was won by Indian team and said to be "One of the greatest come-from-behind victory".
