Dhoni became ODI captain of Indian team

If there is anyone who got to the Indian team's captain's post in the quickest time in recent past its MS Dhoni. Making his debut to international cricket on Dec 23, 2004 against Bangladesh at Chittagong, no one had thought that he will become Indian captain one day. All the credits to Dhoni itself, everyone know that he is a tough nut to crack with good cricket knowledge.

With 84 ODIs and 20 tests under his belt he today become the captain, contenders for the same post were Sachin and Saurav, but selectors turn their back to old men's and chose the future.

"Dhoni is a good captain and it is the right time to groom him," Vengsarkar said after he announce the news.

The selectors also chose a 15-member squad for the first three matches of the ODI series against Australia recalling pacemen Irfan Pathan and off-spinner Harbhajan Singh into the team.The squad, which will have Yuvraj Singh as vice captain, has no place for pacemen Ajit Agarkar and Munaf Patel, while Rohit Sharma has also been omitted.

Me see no point omitting Rohit Sharma, who didnt played much cricket to judge his talent and what was his fault even he didn't know. These are the reasons why ICL came up to support the Indian cricketers where no one know why they select and drop players.

On the inclusion of Irfan and Harbhajan Vengsarkar said " both Pathan and Harbhajan had done enough to merit a comeback. They have done well in the Twenty20 World Cup and they deserve it. We need an all rounder in the No 7 or 8 position and Irfan gives us more options. We will see his performance in the first few one-dayers."

On the question of Test captain he said " "We will see how Dhoni performs in these 12 ODIs before choosing the Test captain (against Pakistan)," About Sachin interested for Test captaincy he mentioned that " We did not offer the captaincy to anyone, nor did we talk to him [Tendulkar] regarding the Test captaincy."
